A cut that respects the curl.
A curl does not hang where it was cut. It springs, it stacks, and it can lose several inches to shrinkage between wet and dry, which is how a cut that looked balanced under tension dries into a triangle. Textured hair takes longer to cut for that exact reason: the shape has to be judged against how the hair behaves on its own, not how it sits when it is soaked and combed straight.
Our women's curly cut is $110 and runs about an hour, against $75 to $95 for a cut on straight hair. The difference is time and attention rather than a penalty for having texture. We look at where your curl pattern changes from crown to nape, where weight has to come out so the shape lifts instead of widening, and how much length you can lose before the curl pulls up shorter than you had in mind.
If you want texture you were not born with, a perm is the other route: from $150, or $180 for a spiral perm on medium to long hair. Modern perms are gentler than their reputation, but they are still a chemical service, and we will tell you honestly whether your hair is in condition to take one.
What we look at in a textured cut:
- Where your curl pattern changes from crown to nape
- How much shrinkage to allow for before the first section comes off
- Weight removed so the shape lifts rather than widens
- Layers soft enough that no single one announces itself
- A finish and product plan you can actually repeat at home
Brown that is not flat.
Dark hair goes wrong in a particular way. It reads as one solid block in daylight, and whatever dimension was once there has quietly faded into it. Sophia specializes in brunette color and this is most of what she does: fine ribbons of lift through the mid-lengths, warmth kept honest rather than orange, and a gloss over the top to tie the whole thing together so the depth looks like it grew there.
Brunette is also where lightening is least forgiving. Dark hair carries a lot of warm underlying pigment, and pulling it too far too fast is how everybody ends up with the orange band once. Slower lifting, stopping at the right stage, and a toner over the result is the difference, and it is worth the extra half hour in the chair rather than a correction appointment later.
